Being a sanitation worker is a dangerous job

An improperly disposed oxygen tank.

Mercy me what year was that sister? I have seen garbage handled that away but I think it was over 60 years ago. Not begrudging those dudes a job, but these days there is generally only one operator, I think. He drives the truck and handles the equipment. Arm reaches out, grabs the can, and dumps in in top of garbage truck. Anything that don’t fit you are on your own to dispose of.

I would say the top loader is far safer, and nobody actually gets close to the container. Why is Whitehall in the dark ages?

I don’t know, maybe a no tax state, and they can’t afford any new garbage trucks. I don’t know how old the video is. Edit I found it. it was 2 days ago.
Watch: Ohio garbage collectors walk away unscathed from explosion

Garbage collector should not be handling the garbage and it should be handled by the mechanical arms on most of the garbage trucks like the one we see in our area. Handling the garbage by personnel exposes them to dangerous chemicals and diseases.

Reminds me of a prank I pulled when I was a kid and garbage was handled just as in OP’s clip. Seems like one garbage man was named Tom Lemon, no relation to Don Lemon; this guy worked for a living. Seems like all were a tad dark.

Anyway garbage cans were pretty big and galvanized. We had three out back, in a rack holding them off the ground. So I contrived to give them a suprise. Put 20 gallons or so of water in the middle can, and stood by out of sight to watch and listen…

“Hey man how bout hep me over here!” OK dude. Together they got 'er outta there and loaded in back of garbage truck. I don’t remember the words but suspect they were not fit to print. Garbage truck flowed water all the way down the alley. Shame on me.
