Average credit card debt US

The average credit card debt is $7,000, which IMO isn’t too bad and shouldn’t be too difficult to pay off in a year or two. I’m guessing most people here have no or little credit card debt.

Our credit card debt is zero (except for the current month). So someone out there is carrying a heavier load.

Same here. I work with people that carry balances over $10k and have been for years, it’s not on health care or an emergency but on everything else. They’re the same people that aren’t in the 401k or contribute very little.

Same, but how close to the due date do you pay in full?

I usually collect the card statements, utility and other bills for 3-5 days after receipt, and then use my bank’s bill pay and pay them all. We usually get a slug of bills this time every month, and yesterday I paid 10 (2 cards, water, trash pickup, 4 health care premiums, phone & cable).

@jimtoo - ours is the same as yours. I also have not had a mortgage for decades and we have always bought our cars in cash for the total price of the car.

We keep our cars 10+ years and pay cash. The last payment we had was on our 1998 Ford Explorer. I told my kid when he’s ready buy a car, choose one he wants to drive for a decade and get a loan if he has to, once it’s paid off keep putting the payment into his money market and when he’s ready for a new car pay cash.

One cc used for on-line purchases and paid off every month on the same day the bill arrives.
