Considering changing our auto insurer this year. Policy expires in March, so I have some time to look into other companies. We’re currently with Safeco and have been for maybe 15 years. Premiums have zoomed in the wrong direction and now exceed $4K (2 cars, 2011 and 2015, high policy limits and high deductibles). I am looking at American Family (Costco link) and Hartford (AARP). We used AAA long ago in Michigan and Hartford here for a few years before moving to Safeco. Hartford was low priced for 2-3 years and then the premiums started shooting up.
Anyone happy enough with your insurer to recommend them?
Clark was talking about that a couple months ago, he said you should shop every 3 years or so because companies are hoping you’ll be loyal as they just keep jacking up rates. I had Allstate since I was a teenager for auto and used them for homeowners insurance. Their rates kept going up, so I made an appointment with the local State Farm guy and he saved me almost $1,500 bucks the first year. That was about 10 years ago.
Edited to add… I like having an office I can walk into and ask questions or talk to an agent. I did sit down with a insurance broker that I met at a get-together a couple years ago and he could come close on a few things but I was better off staying with State Farm.
My rates have skyrocketed since covid. I use to pay about $80/ 6 mo for $500K liability and about $150/ 6 mo for full coverage with $500 deductible with progressive. Since then, there has been 2 claims for deer strikes. Now $500K liability is about $220 / 6 mo and full coverage is about $425 / 6 mo. Mine has gone up just shy of 3x.
I did switch my commercial progressive policy to Oklahoma Farm where I have homeowners for discount. That policy was only $220/ yr for $500K liability at progressive and now I am paying $235/ 6 mo for the bundle discount on my homeowners. I got quotes at Oklahoma Farm for my other vehicles and it was SKY HIGH. They were wanting about $800 / 6mo for full coverage. No thanks!
I have had them over a decade. They give you Costco discount. They have my home, auto and umbrella. Have given me accident forgiveness over a small fender bender. Took care of getting my claim settled with a person who hit me. (I filed through my policy with them and they got paid by the other insurance company and I got my deductible back plus the rental car) Fast service also. I also had a tree fall on the house and got quick settlement and everything fixed. Oh and customer service is in Wisconsin so they all speak english
