The German version is a tad different.
The basic premise is a child lets 99 ballons go, (it isn’t red in the german version) and it is seen as an airplane which leads to nuclear war.
The lyrics are similar enough to get the basic story. What is interesting is the Captain Kirk line is in both versions.
I have heard that before, but his voice is almost too nice for the song. That song needs Dylan’s raspiness spitting the words out, although he was only 21-22 when he sang it. Willie could probably do it, maybe Leon Redbone.
