A question for the Atlanta Members

Is anyone familiar with the adult communities of Vickery Rose in Roswell or Holbrook in Woodstock. If so, what do you know about them. my daughters family showed both communities to me when I was visiting them in the Atlanta area a few weeks ago.

Do you need that level of care?

Or do you want to be independent

BM will answer for herself of course.

Ideal for me when I get older would be one of those places where I can be independent as long as I can, then get a bit of help as I get older and less able. Sometimes, that’s a gradual thing.

My grandma was in that place in Arizona that started as a one-bedroom apartment (very independent and she still had her car), then went to a room more like a hotel room with all meals in the dining room or room service (kind of independent but staff checked on her everyday) and ended in a nice hospital type room all in the same complex. Friends could visit each other just by walking to the next building.

Arizona has A LOT of senior communities.

Vickery rose only has independent living and does not include any health services. They refer to it as a senior resort because it has a variety of apartment sizes, casual and formal dining included in rent, and maid service once a week, and various activities

Holbrook has three different buildings independent, assisted living and memory care. The building for independent living is similar to Vickery Rose.

Let’s assume you’re doing great health wise right now. Could you move easily from one building to another if that changed in say a decade or so?

@mcarley - I was told that I could I would just have to pay a transfer fee to move from an apartment in independent living to one in their assisted living building.

Thanks for the helpful responses. Although my life would be easier if I didn’t have the headaches of maintaining a house on a one acre wooded lot I am healthy enough to do so and have the financial resources to hire people when a project on it should be done. In addition when I have a big expense such as a new roof, exterior painting , etc it is not a monthly expense.

Maybe it is just me but I would have a difficult time justifying paying a lot more per month for rent to live in an independent adult community than I currently do for my house, especially since these apartments are a fraction of the size of my house which I own free and clear

I realize at some point in time I may need assisted living and if that time comes I will have different priorities.

It’s good that you and your daughter are researching other options now, hopefully well before you’ll actually need them. It would be much harder to look into these on a short time frame or when you’re under stress.
