A homeless donkey

A minority does not make the majority.

Was the guy able bodied or unable to work? That’s the discussion we’re having, able bodied people should have to work and not be on Medicaid.

Then why do you include the vast majority in with this?

No. He eventualluy died. Remember…he had cancer.

If he wasn’t able to work he’d be able to get Medicaid, the Big Beautiful Bill requires able bodied people to work in order to get benefits.

not in Kansas he couldn’t. Even unemployment would put them over the threshold to qualify for Medicaid. The average unemployment check in Kansas is $637. for a maximum of 26 weeks. That’s $16,562 just for half a year. In Kansas if the income for a family of four is over $11,867 , then they won’t qualify for Medicaid…and if they are single? Fuhgetaboutit - you can’t get Medicaid.

But here is is, grouped with those lazy assed liberals and illegals, sucking at the governmetn teat.

If he was disabled because of the cancer he would get Medicaid and not be required to work.

From Kancare…It covers people with limited income, which may include pregnant women, children up to age 19, adult caretaker of children, persons aged out of foster care, persons with disabilities and senior citizens to list a few. We provide Medicaid through many special programs.

So nothing in this bill would have effected him.

The state runs Medicaid. He couldn’t get it. Or…the only way he could get it is to spend down his assets to get the emergency care. fuck the family - it’s the Republican way. I had a good friend who faced that…he had lung cancer in the past and was treated. He sold his concrete business to provide for his family but because cancer was as “preexisting condition” he couldn’t get insurance. Then - it came back. no insurance and this was before Obamacare, although Obama had been elected (he didn’t vote for him…he said the wrong n----r won). His options were to spend down his savings. Instead he went into his garage, put a gun in his mouth, and pulled the trigger. BUT…and this is important…he didn’t cost you a dime.

That’s right…IF the income for a family of 4 is UNDER $11,500. Kancare is primarily for children - for an adult to be covered they would have to “spend down” their assets to qualify. And if the person happens to be single - fuck them. It’s almost impossible to get Medicaid But what do I know - I’ve only worked with Kancare for 20 years but that means nothing since a guy in Chicago who has never even driven thru Kansas knows so much more.

FWIW, a few years ago I dated a gal who was a social worker for the state…she said that the policies in Kansas actually encourage people to quit their job since the income limits were so low that even a minimum wage job would push them over the income limit.

Actually, it’s the American way. Anyone has to spend down their assets before they can qualify for Medicaid. It’s been that way for a very long time.

Yes, that’s how it works. Thus discussion is about the BBB having work requirements for able bodied recipients.

Yes it has. In fact, many wealthier people who bitch and moan about Medicaid today are quietly setting up trusts to shield their assets from the Medicaid rules…Despite having hated Medicaid all their lives they have no problem in their final years using it so that they can save their kids inheritance. Those people, IMHO, are worse than any homeless donkey. They do this because, while they may have long term care insurance, that insurance will likely have a time limit (up to 5 years) or a dollar maximum. If they reach that, their assets are used. but if their assets are there and protected, then they can easily reach the spend down number and be covered.

And the non able bodied are often STILL not covered. Because IF the income for a family of 4 is $12,000 - he can’t work and he can’t get Medicaid.

The work provision is supposed to fix that, if someone is able bodied they’ll have to work to receive benefits. There are a lot of people that are lazy assholes that don’t want to work, they know the democrats will fight for them.

Because that’s what Medicaid is for, poor people. If Musk and Bezos decide to take no paycheck should they be able to go on Medicaid?

Totally legal, you can do it too if you want.

It’s not that simple. Medicaid can look back 5 years to undo irrevocable trusts. If it’s a revocable trust, it can be attached and other money transfers clawed back. Many states will record a lien against property owned by the person seeking Medicaid to get repaid before the property transfers. Also, many nursing homes and the like limit the number of Medicaid patients, or not take them at all. Someone with enough money to attempt to hide is not going to like the choices.

Define poor. Would $15k (gross) be considered poor in your book? Current rents in the slums are about $1000 per month, but feel free to check the rentals in KC and show me a nice place for less…for fun…make it a place you’d want your kid to live in. That leaves $3000 (gross) for the rest of the year.. Is that poor? And if the company doesn’t’ offer health insurance, he will need that. In Kansas, he’s screwed.

See…you might not have heard it since Illinois is kind of blue, but there was this thing called “Medicaid Expansion” It was a part of the affordable care act. It was to expand Medicaid to cover people who were able to work but didn’t have health insurance available at work, and who couldn’t afford a plan in the marketplace. Kansas chose NOT to expand Medicaid, and unless this guy can be called “disabled” , he can’t get Medicaid. An able bodied person who can’t get insurance.

I don’t believe that the Big Ugly Bill changes how Medicaid is managed by the states. But in Kansas, if a single person is making $15k, they won’t qualify. But he’s able bodied and he’s working. But he is a homeless donkey to you.

That’s why it’s called estate planning…buy a 5 year LTC policy and then shelter your assets. when you are moved into your long term care facility - the clock starts. After 5 years is up, dad still hasn’t died. then what? the irrevocable trust is 6+ years old. Luxury LTC places won’t take Medicaid. This is maybe the only time a poor person has an advantage. They’ve grown used to living with less so anyplace that will take mom or dad will be welcomed. Now…how much do mom and dad take away from teh kids inheritance to keep them in a LTC facility?
