With the discussions about JFK’s assassination in the media today, I was reminded that William Clay Ford signed the deal to become the sole owner of the Detroit Lions on that same day. The folly of his ownership would become evident in the not too distant future. WCF dies in 2014 and the Ford family still owns the Lions.
After the Lions’ comeback win last Sunday, there were stories reporting that the last time the Lions were 8-2 in the regular season was in 1962. The date of his agreement to buy was sometimes cited as a jinx on the team. Indeed, they won about 40% of the games played under WCF’s ownership, won one playoff game and never got to the Super Bowl. Today’s Lions are not WCF’s team.
