$15 didn't make sense, so lets do $17

Gotta love Bernie!

They should tie it to something. Just throwing out a random number is stupid.

There are several Senators, of both parties, that have suggested tying it to inflation (CPI), but they are routinely ignored.

The fight for $15 campaign started, what, 20 years ago? $15 isn’t what it once was.

It was a made up number to begin with. So it never was what they claimed.

All numbers are made up numbers.

Why settle at $15, $17 or even $20, let’s make it $100 an hour. A high school kid working 20 hours a week at McDonald’s would be making over $100k a year, he could drop out, buy a house and live the American dream while flipping burgers part time.

We had been told that we should just abolish the minimum wage and let the market determine that. And - the minimum wage has not change from what it was from 15 years ago. And sure enough, businesses couldn’t get people to work for $7.25 per hour, businesses brought the rate up to $15 (or more). That’s the market working it’s magic. Except that now we bitch about the high price of fast food and blame Biden for it (for some reason…not sure exactly how).

Very profound, use that when paying the Feds your taxes.

Exactly, that’s how it’s supposed to work. Anyone making minimum wage in a job after a year needs to look at themselves and not blame others. If someone offers very little to an employer that’s what they will be paid.

Did you use to for WorldComm or Enron?

No, not all numbers are made up. They are based on something. THe random 15 an hour is just made up.

nice try,but Biden isn’t the one who was keeping folks from applying for minimum wage jobs. Minimum wage is still $7.25. The market had determined that we should try $15. That is a 100% increase, which factors in to the price of a hamburger. You did a great job of blaming Biden for 8.6%. But doesn’t that mean that the market is responsible for the other 91.4% increase.

OK, then deep six the minimum wage, the market seems to be a better indicator.

Need to do some education first. Some folks will applaud that the market determined a rate. Turns out it is double what it was before. But the beauty of the market is that despite a 100% increase the biggest cost in your business…the high price of a hamburger is due to the 8.6% increase in inflation.

If you think wages are the driving force behind inflation you need a few economics classes.
In reality, inflation was the driving factor behind wages going up.

Exactly. People will earn what someone else is willing to pay.

Yes, that’s how it should work. Supply and demand determined what the wage should be.

Bullshit. Paying people to not work is a great way to screw up the supply side of the labor force.

Notice when the democrats stimulus package started and when Bidenflation shot through the roof.

Why would someone work when Creepy Uncle Joe was paying them more to sit on their ass at home?

The wage has an impact on the price of the food. And why didn’t the previous employees come back? Did inflation hit them so hard that no job is better than $7.25 and they’d just let inflation catch up.

Minimum wage is a self-defeating cycle.

Minimum wage causes inflation which means politicians will keep requesting an increase in the minimum wage to continue kicking people off welfare

Minimum wage removes competition. Large business that can automate crush their small competitors
