# What's the best tool to check home and car insurance rates?

I’m looking for one website that will get me rates from reputable companies for home and insurance, don’t want to put my info into 10 different websites. I currently have State Farm through a local office but they’ve been difficult to work with and I suspect I can get better rates elsewhere.

I’m sure there are web sites that do it, but I’d just call a local **independent** agent. At least where I live, State Farm agents are not independent, so surprise surprise, they will sell you a State Farm policy. My agent quoted policies from a dozen or so different companies for each of auto and home.

I usually get three quotes from direct writers’ and three quotes from agency bound companies.

I send them my dec sheets with personal information redacted.
