Statistical anomalies

What are the weirdest statistical anomalies in your life? I have two:

I know at least three people killed by trains (separate incidents.)

My first novel, published in 2016, has sold fewer than 100 copies. However, it has sold those copies in nine different countries. I know almost no one outside the US.

I randomly met Harold Ramis twice, once at a car rental company I worked at and at brunch about 7 years later.

What was he like?

I come from a very small town (see my thread).
In high school we referred to it as “the hub of the Universe”.
My wife made fun of that early in our marriage, but about once every couple of years we run into someone from my hometown in random places.
She is dumbfounded by how often it happens.

Very normal. The first time he was with another guy and we made small talk for a couple minutes and they got on the shuttle to the airport. I mentioned to the girl that checked him out that he looked like Harold Ramis and she looked at the rental contract and said it was. The second time I met him he was behind me in the buffet line and he look at my plate and said “is that the heart healthy plate?” I had eggs Benedict, bacon and sausage, I told him I’ll grab some fruit on my third or fourth trip. I then recognized him and asked what he was doing in there. I didn’t realize they had a Groundhogs Day celebration that weekend, it was in the town that they filmed the movie. He was a nice guy.

The comedian/actor Alan King lived nears us when I was growing up and his children went to the same schools

One day when my mother dropped my brother off at school she
thought that Alan King didn’t leave enough distance in the school parking lot and told him to be careful because he nearly hit her son. Alan King then asked her if she knew who he was and my mother replied “I don’t care who you are. You nearly hit my son”

Of course my mother had realized he was Alan King but had a great sense of humor :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Not long after Michigan started their lottery, I won $1,500 (don’t recall the odds). Only played a very few times after that.

30 years ago I asked this girl to marry me and she said yes.

In 2006 my husband and I took a Baltic Cruise from Dover, England to St Petersburg, Russia. When our ship was in Rostock, Germany my husband and I waited at the port to take a shuttle to the center of Rostock. While waiting for the shuttle we started to chat with a couple that was on the same cruise. We then discovered that they lived in New York City at the same time we did and that his son and our daughter were in the same second grade class at the United Nations International School in Manhattan. What are the odds of that happening

I met my current wife in Florida nearly 30 years ago and discovered we were from smallish cities liess than a 100 miles apart in Illinois, and that our birthdays were on the same date, which also happened to be Valentine’s Day. That explains why I’m such a lovable person in case you were wondering.
