Not a recording, but this is a song I wrote for my kid around when he was born.
Iāve written about 3-4 others, but I donāt play an instrument. Iāve been working with a songwriting consultant to try to get some of them set to music.
A Tender Night
©2009 Michael Carley
You look at me to my surprise
And I see questions in your eyes
You wonder how if we love you so
Weād bring you into this world of woe
Thereās pain and doubt, so much to fear
And danger for all that we hold dear
I have no reply, try as I may
So this is all that I can say:
It was a tender night when we created you
The stars shone bright searching for the morning dew
All the world was right as we made three from two
On that tender night when we created you
My darling child, there are some things
That you must know; itās why we sing
The world outsideās not in our hands
Time goes by like grains of sand
All we can do is live our lives
And find some love āfore it goes by
For we may never make things right,
But we can seek our own respite
Like that tender night when we created you
(When) the stars shone bright reaching toward the morning dew
All the world was right as we made three from two
On that tender night when we created you
And so my child, go forth, be bold
And worry not what youāve been told
Most things are just up to fate
Except the moments we create
Perhaps youāll change all thatās wrong
If not, then write your own childās song
Inspired by one special night
When all the world was out of sight
Like that tender night when we created you
(When) the stars shone bright dancing in the morning dew
All the world was right as we made three from two
On that tender night when we created you
Bridgemaven,
There is a local bar band that I used to go see that had this song on their regular playlist.
I need to go to one of their shows again!
I donāt know how to write songs either, but I donāt let that stop me. Wrote my first decent poem recently when I was stuck in the hospital with a-fib.
