Yes — in the 1950s you could smoke in hospitals, and many patients could buy cigarettes from their hospital bed. It was not only allowed, it was socially normal.
In medical school one of the old doctors talked about smoking. He said you use to light a cigarette when talking to a patient. That told them you were going to spend some time with them since you were expected to finish it before leaving.
How times have changed.
I remember going to the doctor with my mother, would have been late 50s, and he and my mother were both smoking.
I think I have that firearm. It looks better in her pants than mine.
