Little reward to myself after scooping the drive (twice) and helping push two morons that thought it would be a good idea to try to drive up my hill in a blizzard.
Good man.
If I’d shoveled a driveway and helped people dislodge their car in the freezing cold, I’d probably be eating an entire pizza.
My wife made a really good, simple chicken and olive pasta.
It was amazing and she basically just made it up in her head.
I used my snowblower twice and did my driveway and my neighbor’s. She;'s in her 80’s and just had a hip replacement and I wanted to keep her driveway clear so her daughters could get in the driveway. I’ll do it one more time this morning. If anything, it keeps the buildup from the snowplows lower in front of my driveway. I figured it’s easier to clear 5 inches 3 times than it is to clear 15 inches once.
I don’t mind snow storms, usually all my neighbors are out shoveling and blowing snow and we end up in one of our garages or around a fire pit drinking beer.
It’s clear this morning so I did the last pass on my driveway and my “multiple pass” strategy worked well… Since it wasn’t windy (but was single digits) I did the sidewalks from my house up to the corner - about a quarter mile. Supposedly my city has an ordinance that sidewalks must be cleared, although I think enforcement may be lax, but I usually try to do a favor for my neighbors. The “untouched” part of the sidewalks showed that we got about a foot of snow in this storm. I think this was the first time since I’ve owned my dual stage snowblower that it was used the way it was intended…the impellers grabbed it in and then blew it out pretty far.
Just a trace of snow here. Temp was about 10* this morning with -3* wind chill. I was outside a lot yesterday and my 1964 tractor would not start. Going to get some starting fluid and better jumper cables on my way home from work tonight. We did go put a horse blanket on the old horse. It just amazes me that the animals like cows and horses can survive in this kind of weather.
This was the first use for my snowblower and I was ever so thankful for the optional electric start…usually it’s a rope pull, but there is a place to connect an extension cord and press a button. After it was started once, the rope pull worked find after that.
I go back and forth on if I should buy a snowblower.
Getting to the age where I may need one (about 5 years)
Just buy a skid steer instead. It will be way more fun to use.
I’ve had this one for over 10 years, it will handle anything and always starts in the 2nd pull. Plus it’s a 4 stroke so no mixing oil and gas.
Back in 1978, the Mother of all snowstorms. Between 2 to 3 feet of heavy/wet snow.
Under that big lump of snow is my 1970 Ford Maverick.
This is mine…a Troy Bilt two stage. I’ve had it about 10 years. I had a single stage but my driveway is pretty long for a suburban driveway. IT’s been pretty bullet proof. My garage is full of stuff right now - they are refinishing my hardwoods so all my furniture is either in a PODS unit or in the garage, then I’m having my laundry room moved to the main floor from the basement and I have a new washer dryer waiting for that to be done.
