My local Walmart hardly even offers manned checkout. There is only one person on duty (if that), but the self checkout area is massive.
I feel I should be getting a discount on my purchases since the company is not having to spend money on labor costs for the scanner.
All of that said, I am careful to ensure my purchases scanned correctly. I make sure it registers to begin with and did not scan twice.
I suspect the cases of “accidental” failure to scan something — especially something expensive — might not have been so accidental in the overwhelming majority of cases.
