LGA has such a has such a short runway that it looks like you’re going to land in the water
Pilots are like any other group, some like to talk and some say as little as they have to. But sometimes if something is a little different from normal it’s smart to prepare the folks (Especially fearful flyers). I usually didn’t say a lot but if there was something to see I would make a short announcement. “Folks, we are about to fly just south of the Grand Canyon. Those of you on the right side of the cabin will get a good view of it. We are about 1 hour from landing in San Francisco. Thanks for flying with us”.
My favorite one was an old bomber pilot. I don’t know all the “technical” details of who says when you can fly but all the airlines were canceling flights. Only American showed a flight still leaving.
Got on and the pilot said, everyone buckle up. I flew a bomber for the Air Force to drop nukes. A little snow isn’t going to stop my from my mission. While other pilots are refusing to fly, I trained my whole life for this.
Everyone was cracking up. I think we were the last flight of our Chicago before they shutdown the airport.
