Interesting Architecture

An apartment building on Gramercy Park East in New York City

One of the guys in my bike group is a retired architect. Every so often he will do a “architecture tour”. It’s surprising the number of unique things that dot every city, but are so easily overlooked.

This is a triangular building that was built in 1902 to accommodate the fact that the block it was built on is a triangle. It was originally known as the Fuller Building but its name was subsequently changed to the Flatiron Building

This is Detroit’s somewhat smaller equivalent. It’s the G.A.R. building, built in 1899 to honor those who fought for the Union in the Civil War. It is still being used today, but as restaurants and offices.
