# Illegal forward handoff

Just learned something. Never knew this was against the rules.

I always thought that was a shovel pass and legal.

Apparently, if I’m understanding correctly, a forward pass to a lineman is only legal behind the line of scrimmage.

I honestly thought you couldn’t hand off to a lineman at all, I thought I had to be a “fumble”.

To a running back or a receiver. Not a lineman.
