Hope Patriots win

Coaches go for that 4th and 1 95% of the time; Payton 99%. They should have made it.

Hard to say if they’d have won the game with Nix. Dobbins would certainly have helped.

When Denver decided to go for it there I thought of the saying about pigs getting fat and hogs getting slaughtered, this before they had run the play.

For cities in cold weather climates, if you ever want to host the Super Bowl, they will simply point to a day like this in Kansas City and say you better have a dome

Just my opinion, but it is not worth spending a ton more on a domed stadium just to have one Super Bowl, like Detroit has had since Ford Field opened in 2002, as one example. This is another of those things where the NFL has managed to make something seem a lot more valuable than it is actually worth.

I, for one, am happy that Buffalo will never host a Super Bowl.

Edit: I should also add that, if cold weather games are part of your team’s history, identity and game experience, it is not worth it to give that up just to host one Super Bowl. Picture a dome in Green Bay.

Just my opinion.

Read an article years ago that the economic “impact” of a Super Bowl is grossly overblown

Yup. However, to listen to the NFL hosting a Super Bowl is the greatest thing that can happen to your city. They love to use that as an “incentive” for localities to fund new stadiums.

As I understand, Buffalo could not host a Super Bowl, regardless, since there are not enough hotel rooms to meet the requirements. Even if that was not as issue, I would not want Buffalo to throw away its historical cold weather advantage and tailgaiting experience just to host one Super Bowl.

As I recall, it was widely rumored in Detroit that one reason the Fords built the Silverdome to replace the outdoor Tiger Stadium for football was that the NFL (or Rozelle) promised the Lions to have a Super Bowl there. The Silverdome opened in 1975-76 and in 1979 the NFL announce that the 1982 SB would be held there.

@jimtoo : Do you think getting that one Super Bowl was worth it?

Not to me, but it was probably worth it to the Wm Clay Ford. Tiger Stadium held about 50,000, but the Silverdome held about 75,000. The Pistons played there for many years, moving there from a much smaller Cobo Arena in downtown Detroit. It was configured to 30,000 for basketball. I saw some college basketball there and it was an odd place to see a game, and probably to play. The Silverdome was actually in Pontiac, 25-30 miles north of Detroit.

Watching football in a closed stadium is, to me, like watching some other type of performance and not the NFL. There’s a totally different feel to the game.

This is that asshole sports guy that I like. I thought you might enjoy his comments about Vrabel here

Thanks, I can now cry in my beer.
