Grocery prices soar as tariffs impact everyday staples

Apparently less than the ironically named “inflation reduction act”.

Is there any evidence that call actually happened?

None at all.

My God…..those fucking tariffs created Bidenflation. I might have missed it, but did it include tariffs on every single country in the world? Even countries where we ran a trade surplus? I mean…originaily, the TACO tariffs were supposed to do something about the trade deficits we had with countries that were screwing us over. bujt there is currently a 25% tariff on Brazil…a country that the US has consistantnlyh had a trade SURPLUS with. While i realize that this 25% TACO tariff on Brazil does not impact Amazon, it does seem to impact brick and mortar grocery stores. What role did the inflation reduction have on Brazil? To their credit…every Republican voted against the inflatin reduction act, but at LEAST they had something to vote on. But should we call Trump’s tariffs (fuck congress…who needs them) the “inflation improvement non act”?

No there isn’t, but it illustrates my issue with meme’s….left wing OR right wing. You see it…you agree with it…you share it…and suddenly it’s “viral”. BUT….if we had someone at Facebook or Twixxer that “fact checked” that and said “this is incorrect”….it is labeled “censorship” and we instead are better served by “self fact checking”. One more reason the internet and AI (which most of these meme’s are) are making us the absolute dumbest society in world history.

There’s a lot of memes going around about tariffs increasing prices 50%, but they’re all bullshit. Even when presented with the facts, official inflation data and actual prices people are brainwashed to believe the bullshit.

What the hell are you talking about?

Who was the head of BLS when this report was created? The report of the cratering labor market cost one leader her job. I wonder who was in charge when this report came out? I hope they haven’t spent too much personalizing their new office.

Read past the headline

The inflation reduction act

I have an interesting friend in Eugene. She’s a “liberal” but she’s into Jordan Peterson. She’s complicated.

she is super into therapy and always ponders why I give such good answer to her issues and always reply back like her psychiatrist would. Anyway…

her son just turned 18. She asked me if it was wrong to have him work with his father in his cafe. Everyone was telling her that she should have him work there as it’s dirty work.

I said when I was a young man, I worked in a restaurant doing dirty work. Look at the people telling you no and look at me. Who do you want your child to be like? She have her thumbs up after that comment. Lol. It’s the exact same type of comment her therapist said as well.

It’s why the kids lack social skills and other things.

Ok, after the Inflation Reduction Act, inflation skyrocketed.

Right now, contrary to the “experts”, inflation is under control.

The headline of the OP was misleading. The CPI is lower than it was a year ago.

Tariffs would increase inflation, they haven’t shown up on food eaten at home.

In July 2025, U.S. food prices increased by 2.9% year-over-year, with food at home (groceries) up 2.2% and food away from home (restaurants) up 3.9%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Coffee went up (excpet on Amazon) 25% since that story came out. And jsut after a 25% tariff on a country where we have consistently had a trade surplus.

Then it didn’t go up. If people choose to purchase an item for a 25% higher price than is available elsewhere, then they have mental retardation problems, not tariff problems.

You’re cherry picking one item, look at the official inflation numbers for July, it’s 2.2% for food eaten at home.

Exactly, the same people buy a new car every 4 or 5 years, have a perpetual mortgage, save barely anything for retirement and blame others because of their decisions.

Becasue that tariff is in effect. And out dear leader said that the puropose of the tariffs was driven by our trade deficit…that other countries were “screwing us over” with taiffs. For decades we have run a trade surplus with Brazil….which, if I am to believe Trujmp’s original reason for the tariffs means that they shouldn’t have a tariff at all, but we have a 25% tariff for a reason that has nothing to do with a trade deficit.

Yes, on one item and it hasn’t gone up by 25%. The tariff is on the price of the item imported, not the retail price.

You keep ignoring the fact that the official inflation numbers for July, it’s 2.2% for food eaten at home. In 2022 inflation for food eaten at home was 11.4%, I know math is difficult for you but which is better for consumers?
