EV Buyer's Regret

No and I know 3 people that I see often that own one. They call in my car.

I have noticed that people who own a car that’s number 17 on the customer satisfaction list whine about cars that have much higher satisfaction. Have you noticed that?

If they had the same fit and finish as a Tesla they would be lower. We dissed every American car as being junk when they had similar fit and finish to what Tesla puts out today. As more EV’s are built, the tolerance for poor fit and finish will diminish.

Dude, Infinity is the bottom of the list at number 29, Mercedes is 24 and Audi 25. People are much happier with their Tesla than 24 other car brands.

I suspect that would be true if other EVs joined the market, had good reliability (including charging networks) AND Tesla didn’t improve their fit and finish.

I suspect those things won’t all be true. If there are plenty of good EVs available in a few years and Tesla hasn’t improved, I’d likely consider another model. But I expect they’ll get better.

Nothing stays the same.

I had a neighbor who always referred to his car as “the Mercedes”

The paint is garbage. They claim it’s California regulations.

You want to see garbage paint, look at Hondas from 2005 onward. How do you have a problem for 20 years and not fixit?

Once more with feeling - kf they had the same fit and finish as Tesla, they would be lower. Audi’s can look good and all that, but they can also be money pits in repairs. Toss it the fit and finish of a Tesla and they would be lower. And at some point in time buyers will not accept that kind of problem with their cars.

If that happens, then Tesla will fix it, but since the people that own the actual vehicles don’t seem to give a shit, Tesla is focusing on the things that they do give a shit about.

My wife has driven Infinitis since 1998 (2) and I have since 2005 (also 2). Neither of us have any complaints about our cars and the dealer customer service has been excellent. I do follow the news and reviews about them, and it does seem that the Infiniti experience has deteriorated in recent years.

That doesn’t pass the smell test. Other manufacturers are able to put out cars with quality paint.

What other car is made in California ? I thought Tesla was the last one.

As I have stated before, I believe that the electric vehicles are a technology in development and have a ways to go before before general acceptance. The first ICE vehicles were not all that impressive and are a long way from what we drive today.

I am happy with our 2014 Prius V that gets about 40 MPG.

I plan to dive it untill eith it or I die.

Good point, but I’m sure it’s possible to make a quality product with whatever regulations are in place.

Poor business. Remember when American cars ruled? Detroit gave Americans what THEY thought they should have. And for years, Americans bought them with little complaint, Then things changed. Americans started demanding things, like better fuel economy. When they got that from Japanese carmakers AND saw that the quality of the car was superior, then they were behind the 8 ball. Tesla’s attitude seems to be “people are buying them so fuck it”. But one day…when they least expect it, an EV that is price competitive…better looking AND better built will be released. Then Tesla will be playing catch up.

Yep…they led the market in EV’s. But they are fools to think it will always stay that way. I’m sure it will be a while. I mean their “Cybertruck”. I saw one of those at my grandsons soccer game and you could see the gaps when driving past it. That and the fact that the “color” of the doors and fenders ddn’t match, yet with all the hype, they are getting over $100 grand for them. What they MIGHT want to do is say “we hear your complaints and here is what we are doing to improve”. But they don’t.

But before the Cybertruck finally was produced, we were told that there were two million preorders for them. It’s been “released” for about 8 months now and ALL Cybertrucks were recalled for the windshield wiper…all 11,688 of them. And for such an in demand vehicle, I understand that there are several of them at the dealershp on State Line Road in Kansas Cit y, MO, Also, anecdotal I know, but one of my friends in my bike group bought a used Tesla a couple of years ago. He sold it and got a Hyunda Kona. The range isn’t as much, but that didn’t concern him. But he finds it to be better than the Tesla.

Wish I could run a business that poorly.

Here’s the thing: Tesla has a lot of the market right now because their overall product–especially including the charging network–is superior. Others will catch up and competition is a good thing. If Tesla doesn’t improve the stuff KC criticizes, they’ll likely lose market share, and they should. I bet they’ll improve, at least some, but since competition is a good thing for capitalism, I’m good with lots of players involved.

THis too is part of a fad. I fail to believe that Tesla can be valued more than Ford or Toyota combined.

That isn’t going to change. I see Tesla spinning that off at some point

Spinning it off might be good for competition.
