In my opinion the health care system worked much better when most people paid cash for routine medical care and only had health insurance for hospitals and major medical expenses. At that time doctors fees were affordable because they didn’t have all the administrative costs that they have now. Health insurance was also affordable when most people rarely had to use it.
In addition when most doctors were self employed and rarely had to deal with insurance companies it was easier for them to provide better health care and spend more time with each patient
Addendum to my previous post quoted above, in reality I know that we could never go back to that model for health care because too many things have changed that time.
