When we were raising our daughter my husband felt that if you always say no to a child, the word no will have no meaning. So we should be selective about using the word no so that she will take it seriously when we do. The same reasoning could be applied to covid restrictions. When they are excessive and control every aspect of a person’s life most people won’t take them seriously. However, when governing agents are selective about what they restrict, people are much more likely to comply with them.

Agreed. Writing excessive & unenforceable laws burns the government’s credibility.

To the extent people attempt to follow these at first, they will feel pent up & trapped, and eventually rebel & stop complying.

It’s not good for anyone involved. Breaks both the trust & respect between citizen & government.
