Do Plain Old Copper Wire land lines still exist?

Well yeah, the houses still have them.

Comcast is one of the few business’ that we were customers of that my son saw my wife’s full wrath go off on.
He told her after she got of the phone cancelling our service, “Mom, did you have to be so mean?”

People who don’t have reliable cell service do. Jim is elderly. If he needs medical assistance, he wants something reliable.

I can tell he’s in better shape than I am. Most of all mentally.

I have internet, TV, and a landline with the cable company and planned to cancel my landline. However they told me if I did that I would have to pay more for just TV and internet than I am paying for all three of them.

I completely understand. Their phone service seems to be designed to discourage customers from calling for help. Every time I have spoken with a phone rep, they give me the sales job for their cell phone service. I simply inform them that “if we had Comcast phone service I would not be able to be speaking with you right now.” That usually ends the pitch.

I have gone to their local offices a couple of times, and found some of those folks to be knowledgeable and helpful. The techs who do the hands on work have been most helpful. 2-3 years ago we were getting intermittent outages for many days. The tech came out, agreed with me on the problem but couldn’t find the source. Finally, he said it was a connector problem, but he couldn’t identify the bad connector, so he just replaced them all. problem solved.

That may be true, but you don’t have to spread it around on the internet.

Well technically I hit it in a few years. I’ve thought about a landline for similar reasons. Two modes of calling out wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Landlines are very reliable even during a disaster.

it ain’t cheap anymore

Long distance rates charged by the local provider are ridiculous. We use a 3rd party provider for that, costs are for use only, about 2-3c/minute.

Cell phones have had the most deleterious effect on society of any invention in my lifetime. I never want one. Addiction to them is stronger than to heroin.

Use your Cell phone on WiFi mode. Free

If it wasn’t for my 93 year old mom, l wouldn’t carry one, more of an inconvenience.
