Me too. Damn you guys are old!!
I’m even older than you.
I started out at $4.75 picking up golf balls at a range. There was a perk of unlimited free range balls and I took advantage of that. I was hitting about 1,000 golf balls per day when I had time. It got me on the golf team and I was the only non country club kid on the team. I was slumming it up on the team of rich kids.
Back in 1970, think the minimum wage was $1.65 an hour. Worked during the summer making $2.00 an hour.
Uh, my first job was minimum wage, then $1.25/hour.
Gas was 29 cents a gal in the 60’s
That’s a hell of a story!
If I was a teenager and someone offered me unlimited range balls for work, I might leap up and shake their hand before they even offered the wage.
Like Kramer in that Seinfeld episode where they give him free coffee and never had to pay him the five-figure sum they were planning on.
how long ago was that?
I got my first car in 1975 and gas had always been about that much. No sooner had I got a car then the price went up to 75 cents a gallon. Adjusted for inflation that would be $4.52 today, so it has gone down in price over the years.
I found a reverse inflation calculator and I paid 2.89 for gas today. Using this calculator and the average inflation rate of 3.66 (google results for average inflation) that would be like paying .48 cents a gallon back then
It was 19 cents/gal in the late 50’s.
Chicago pizza is different. One slice is a meal.
I bought my first diesel car, a new Peugeot 504, in 1974. At that time diesel fuel was 29 cents a gal and gasoline was going up rapidly.
Early 80’s. When I was 16 my summer job was at my little towns 's water department reading meters and then I got a job at the Gap when school started. After 3 months there I got a $0.25 an hour raise but quit to work at a convenience store that my buddy worked at for $4.50 an hour. The next two summers I dug ditches for over 14 bucks an hour which was huge. When I got hired the pay was like $6 an hour, but the guys I worked with said I busted my butt and talked the boss into giving me the going rate.
$3.35 in 1982, when adjusted for inflation, would be $13.17. How much is minimum wage again? $7.25 and it’s been that way since 2009. If adjusted for inflation, that would be $10.95 today.
Do you know anyone who actually makes the minimum wage?
This will not help Jeep sales.
I am philosophically against a hybrid Jeep!!!
This is Karma!!
